Judy Meiksin Review

Pittsburgh poet and playwright

"The poetry in Kat Ricker's book Something Familiar is about risk-taking. The speaker in the poems typically takes a risk talking to someone she/he doesn't know, whether a stranger on the bus or a stranger working in the same field during harvest time. Sometimes the "stranger" is a neighbor or a relative who keeps very private. But when someone takes the chance to talk, secrets are revealed. And the most wonderful discovery-made over and over again-is how much people can do for one another once they take that chance."
